British prime minister Theresa May's hopes of securing a deal with Brussels were scuppered by the DUP on Monday, in a day of surprises, disappointment and confusion in Dublin, Westminster and Belfast.

On the latest Inside Politics podcast, the Guardian's Brexit correspondent Lisa O'Carroll joins Irish Times political editor Pat Leahy, deputy political editor Fiach Kelly and presenter Hugh Linehan to discuss what went wrong and how likely it is that an agreement will be reached in time for the European Council meeting next week.

The panel also assess the impact of the Brexit negotiations on Anglo-Irish relations and ask whether creative ambiguity is being used as a deliberate tactic by leaders on all sides.
