Pizza van, taxi hijacked in Co Tyrone town

Police in Northern Ireland are investigating the hijacking of a taxi and pizza-delivery van last night.

The taxi incident occurred at about 8.20pm in Strabane, Co Tyrone. The taxi driver went to Springhill Park to pick up a fare when he was confronted by five men, four of whom were masked.

Three of the hijackers took his car while their accomplices left on foot.

Half an hour later, a pizza delivery van arrived with an order at an address in Mount Sion. The driver was confronted by three men who took his van.

Both hijacked vehicles were later recovered in the town. The taxi was found close to the Swinging Bridge at Liskey Road and the pizza delivery van was discovered off the Woodend Road.

There were traffic diversions as police examined the abandoned van.
