A new stretch of motorway between Dublin and Belfast is set to reduce journey times by about 15 minutes when it opens later today.

The 17 km stretch, which runs between Dunleer and Dundlalk, was built at a cost of £100 million.

It was financed by the EU Cohesion Fund and the National Development Plan.

It is the longest stretch of motorway in the State.

It will be opened by the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs, Mr Dermot Ahern.
