LONDON - The Chinese authorities have sealed off the two main monasteries in Lhasa following a protest in a nearby rural monastery which led to at least 40 arrests and a number of injuries, according to sources quoted yesterday by the Tibetan Information Network (TIN).

The group said the arrests followed a May 7th incident at Ganden monastery after officials tried to impose new rules banning photographs of the Dalai Lama from Buddhist temples.
