The Labour Court is to investigate the Tara Mines dispute on Wednesday. Workers face indefinite lay-offs because of the record low price of zinc.
They agreed to refer the dispute to the court at a meeting on Saturday. SIPTU branch secretary, Mr Christy McQuillan, yesterday said:
"The company keeps talking about trends in zinc prices but have mentioned no definitive criteria they will use to recommence operations. That leaves people who are in an insecure position about the future even more insecure".
SIPTU regional secretary, Mr Mike Jennings, said the company is "suspiciously vague about the terms on which they will resume production".
