Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr has no further injury concerns ahead of Saturday's crucial Euro 2004 qualifier against Albania following this morning's training session in Malahide.

Stephen McPhail, who picked up another minor knock in yesterday's practice game against the under-21s, sat out the session, as did Alan Quinn, more as a precautionary measure than anything else.

Coach Noel O'Reilly hinted that Millwall's Steven Reid is unlikely to start on Saturday despite playing 45 minutes against the under-21s in Glasnevin yesterday.

That action was Reid's first run out since injuring knee ligaments while playing for his club in April. But O'Reilly suggested that while fit, the midifielder's match fitness needs further improvement.

"There is a big difference between fitness and match fitness," he explained.

Striker David Connolly, meanwhile, is gunning for an opportunity to impress but appreciates the difficulty ahead of him in attempting to unsettle both Damien Duff and Robbie Keane up front.

"It's not easy coming on as a substitute although you'll happily do it," he explained. "The players we have are so good and Robbie and Damien have done so well up front, why should you dislodge them?. You're not talking about average players here, you're talking about the top-top players."

Connolly, scorer for 24 goals for Wimbledon last season, enjoyed playing in Kerr's experimental 4- 3-1-2 formation against Norway and sees that particular system as a way of adding to his 36 caps and eight goals.

"I feel with the quality of players we have we are adaptable to play that system. As an exercise I think it worked."

O'Reilly felt the formation "worked well" as it "surprised Norway and caused them all sorts of problems" but said today that the Ireland management team "haven't worked out anything yet with regards the system or the style" for Saturday's crunch tie.
