Cape Town - President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa said yesterday that South Africa would send peacekeeping troops to the Democratic Republic of the Congo if a ceasefire agreement is reached to end the country's 11-month civil war.

"I am convinced that a solution will be found [to the Congo crisis]. As part of that solution we will have to send some South Africans to contribute to the peace making processes," Mr Mbeki told parliament.
