Rome - The Mayor of Genoa told an Italian parliamentary committee yesterday that the city had suffered a moral blow from last month's violent protests at the G8 summit in which a young Italian man was killed.

"The damage is mostly moral," Mr Giuseppe Pericu told the committee as it opened hearings into the violence. "The violence that we saw, the death of a young man: all countries share the guilt for these events which call for political reflection."
