LIMA - Relatives of 72 hostages held by Marxist guerrillas attended a Mass on Thursday to mark the start of the fifth month of the crisis and afterwards released dozens of balloons and a single white dove to mark their call for a peaceful resolution.

The mass was held near the besieged Japanese ambassador's residence. A three man guarantors commission continued at the same time its hectic but hush hush shuttle diplomacy between President Alberto Fujimori's government and the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement rebels.
