A man plunged thousands of feet to his death after falling from a light plane flying over the English countryside.
Thames Valley police said air traffic raised the alarm soon after 3 p.m., saying a man had left a plane without a parachute while it was flying over Oxfordshire, southern England.
The circumstances surrounding this are unclear and a full-scale investigation is underway, said Superintendent Liam Macdougall.
Police using helicopters and patrol cars later found the body of a man, believed to be in his 40s, in a field about half a mile from the nearest road, near the village of Fifield.
The distraught female pilot landed safely at the Royal Air Force's base at Brize Norton and the plane has been cordoned off by police.
Immediate formal identification of the man is not expected.
