A Dundalk man was arrested for INLA membership after the car in which he was a passenger tried to drive through a Garda roadblock, the Special Criminal Court has been told.

Anthony Lee (33), Doylesfort Road, Dundalk, Co Louth, pleaded not guilty to membership of the INLA on December 20th, 2007.

Mary Ellen Ring SC, prosecuting, told the court that gardaí investigating INLA activities blocked the road with Garda cars and activated blue flashing lights, but the car failed to stop and crashed into one of the Garda cars.

In the car boot, gardaí found Garda uniforms in the car boot, with two bullet- proof vests and two black bomber jackets with an AK 47 rifle logo and “Republican Socialist Movement Dundalk” on the back.

The trial continues today.
