A MAN has been arrested following the discovery of a woman’s body at a house in Co Carlow yesterday.
The body of Lisa Doyle (24) was found in an upstairs bedroom of her rented house on High Street, Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow.
Gardaí say they are treating her death as “suspicious”.
It is understood Ms Doyle had been socialising in the village in the hours prior to her death.
Ms Doyle, who worked at a store in Carlow town, had moved into the rented house in the quiet Carlow village in the last month.
The alarm was raised in Carlow town at 6am and a 31-year-old man was arrested. He is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Gardaí last night made an appeal to anyone who may have been out in Leighlinbridge on Saturday night to contact them.
“Gardaí were notified of an incident at a house in Leighlinbridge at 6am and the body of a 24-year-old female was subsequently discovered,” said Supt Gerry Redmond of Thomastown Garda station.
“The death is being treated as suspicious,” he said.
The body of Ms Doyle was removed from the house to Portlaoise General Hospital at around 2pm yesterday.
Results from a postmortem, which was due to be carried out last night, will be known today.
Ms Doyle is originally from Bagenalstown, Co Carlow, about four miles from where her body was found.
Her family was being comforted by friends and relations in Bagenalstown yesterday.
“This is a terrible tragedy for a person so young to die like this,” said local councillor Denis Foley.
“She was a fine young woman who grew up in the area and comes from a well-known and respected family.”
The scene remained sealed off last night as members of the Garda Technical Bureau carried out forensic examinations on the house.
