Motorists in Dublin were facing major traffic disruption this evening after a multi-vehicle crash closed one lane of the M50.

The northbound lane of the carraigeway was shut for some time after a collision involving five cars earlier today between the Finglas and Santry exits. The road has now reopened, although traffic remains slow.

Gardaí said there may be some "slight injuries", but it is not yet clear how many people have been hurt in the incident.

The blockage of the road caused major traffic disruption earlier, with congestion in the north bound lane back to the Lucan exit.

The crash also caused delays on the south bound lane as commuters slowed down to look at the scene.
