The Government yesterday approved the publication of legislation to put the Commission on Child Abuse on a statutory footing. The commission, chaired by Judge Mary Laffoy of the High Court, is to inquire into abuse in State institutions and religious-run schools in Ireland going back to the 1940s. The legislation is to be published on Friday.
