A hoax bomb alert which resulted in the closure of Knock International Airport in Co Mayo for up to two hours yesterday was last night condemned by the airport manager, writes Eithne Donnellan.

The bomb scare led to delays for passengers travelling to London and Manchester. Those arriving from London had to remain on an aircraft while security checks were carried out.

Airport Manager Mr Michael McGrath said the hoax was the action of somebody very sick.
