A judge yesterday acknowledged that the 15 month sentence he imposed on a man convicted of committing an act of gross indecency was "very light".
Judge Sean O'Leary said that the maximum sentence he could give Jonathan Lindsay Morris (38), of Rathmine Road, Piltown, Co Kilkenny, was two years. With a reduction for a guilty plea he had imposed a sentence which he acknowledged was "totally inadequate".
Waterford Circuit Court had been told that the defendant brought a 16 year old youth on what was supposed to be a fishing trip. However, he brought the youth to a secluded area, and an act of gross indecency was committed. The boy was suicidal on occasions after what had occurred.
Judge O'Leary ordered that the 15 month term of imprisonment take effect when a current sentence expired.
