Tyrone woman scoops last-minute All-Ireland tickets in Westport draw

A Tyrone-born dentist living in Mayo has won two tickets for the All-Ireland football final in a draw in Westport.

Emer Farrell, who hails from Trillick, is a huge Tyrone supporter while her husband, Conor, is a season ticket holder for his home county of Mayo. There is divided loyalties among their three daughters, Molly, Alice and Evie.

Speaking on RTÉ News, Emer stressed that she will wear the red and white of Tyrone for the match.

She said she was delighted to scoop tickets for the match on Saturday afternoon where for the first time since 2014, a name other than Dublin will be etched on to the Sam Maguire Cup.

“We have three girls who all play with the local Westport club here, Gaelic football and camogie, and also soccer, and I entered a competition on the Westport Win a House draw.

“They’re running a fundraising draw to raise money for the club and they had a special competition for two free tickets for the match and an overnight stay, and I got pulled out of the hat.”

Her husband had already managed to get his hands on one ticket and now, with the two free tickets, Emer and one of their children will go to the match.

“I’ll be travelling with my husband and one of the kids, the oldest kid [Molly], I think.

“We had said . . . we’d go from the top down so I think she’s going to get that one, so yes it should be fun.”

Molly plays underage camogie for Mayo so she and father will be supporting the western men. Mayo have not won an All-Ireland since 1951. Tyrone have their own drought to come back from having not secured an All-Ireland win since 2008.
