A castle in Co Limerick where Kim Kardashian and Kanye West spent part of their Irish honeymoon has been sold to an Australian family for about €3 million.
After more than two years on the market, Castle Oliver in Ardpatrick, in the foothills of the Ballyhoura mountains, has been bought by a family from Melbourne who work in the transport industry.
They plan to use it as their family home for several months of the year.
The 14-bedroom castle has 23,000 sq ft of accommodation, including a wine cellar with capacity for 55,000 bottles.
Weddings planned
A number of weddings planned for the autumn will go ahead as scheduled in the castle, but it will subsequently be used as a private residence.
Emma and Declan Cormack from Northern Ireland bought the premises in 2006 and invested a substantial sum in its restoration.
‘Ultimate dream’
They have sold up because they wish to move on to other projects further afield. “It was the ultimate dream [buying it]. We have been in property for years. We have bought various places and have done them up and I suppose it was the ultimate dream for us both.
“We wanted to buy a castle and restore it and in the process enjoy the work we had carried out on it.”
She said the couple were keen to explore a new home beside the sea, potentially in Scotland.
The deal was closed this week through property agents Ganly Walters in Dublin.
