Girl suffers spinal injuries after falling from nightclub roof

Incident occurred at newly opened “Moorings” nightclub in Kinsale, Co Cork

A teenage girl is being treated in hospital for spinal injuries after she fell from the roof of a nightclub.

The accident occurred at the newly opened “Moorings” nightclub in Kinsale, Co Cork in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Ciara O'Brien (18) was rushed to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for treatment. She was subsequently airlifted from CUH to the Mater Spinal Injuries unit in Dublin. Her injuries are serious but not life threatening.

Ciara was attending a beach-themed party at the nightclub when she fell eight feet from a flat roof shortly after 2am on Saturday.

The Kinsale Community School student completed her Leaving Certificate this year. She is a part-time employee at the nightclub.

Gardaí have launched an investigation in to the circumstances of the accident and have interviewed staff members and witnesses to the incident.

A garda spokesman confirmed that “here is an ongoing investigation in to the incident”.
