Drugs worth €200,000 seized in Westmeath village

Tip-off from public led to discovery of 260 cannabis herb plants

A cannabis growhouse and drugs worth €200,000 were discovered during a search of a premises in the Co Westmeath village of Tyrrellspass on Thursday evening.

Following a tip-off from the public about suspicious behaviour in the vicinity of a disused petrol station in the village, gardaí entered the property and discovered about 260 cannabis herb plants with an estimated street value of about €200,000. The seizure is one of the biggest in the Mullingar Garda District in recent years.

A Garda spokesperson said the investigation was ongoing and appealed to members of the public who may have noticed anything suspicious in the Tyrrellspass area in the past number of weeks to contact Mullingar Garda station.
