A six-year-old boy has been seriously injured after being struck by a bus in Co Cork.

The incident occurred on the Bantry Road at Tanafora in Dunmanway at about 4pm today.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the boy was transferred to Cork University Hospital by ambulance.

He remains in hospital this evening, where he is said to be in a serious condition.

The road is partially closed to traffic and Garda forensic investigators are expected to examine the scene of the crash.
