Four in 10 US voters still undecided
NEW YORK- More than four in 10 US voters are still undecided as to who they will choose in November's presidential election.
The Olympic Games, summer holidays and back-to-school preparations have overshadowed the US general election campaigns for many and 43 per cent of registered voters have not made a final decision about who to support, an Associated Press-Ipsos poll found.
The poll showed that the 43 per cent of registered voters were undecided. 15 per cent were leaning toward Mr Obama; 16 per cent were tentatively supporting his Republican rival John McCain. - ( PA)
Ahmadinejad denounces Israel
ISTANBUL- Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad launched a verbal attack on Israel yesterday on the eve of a visit to Turkey, saying Western countries should not support the Jewish state.
The comments highlight the difficult path which Turkey, a member of Nato, must follow during the two-day visit which reflects its desire to remain on good terms with its neighbour and secure future energy needs.
"The life of this regime has come to an end," Mr Ahmadinejad said in comments translated into Turkish in a live interview broadcast by Turkey's NTV and CNN Turk channels. - ( Reuters)
Thais to revoke Thaksin passport
BANGKOK- Thailand has begun the lengthy process of trying to extradite former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and revoke his diplomatic passport after he skipped bail this week and went into exile in London.
Foreign minister Tej Bunnag said a supreme court arrest warrant issued on Monday meant the government would cancel the 59-year-old billionaire's diplomatic travel documents.
"We will act promptly. This is our priority," he said. It is not known how the passport cancellation would affect Mr Thaksin's status in Britain. - ( Reuters)
Suicide attack kills three
LAHORE- A bomb exploded outside a police station in the Pakistani city of Lahore yesterday, killing three people, police said.
The blast was apparently caused by a suicide bomber but it was not clear if the bomber was among the dead. About 24 people were wounded, said police spokesman Nayyab Haider. - ( Reuters)
Peaches Geldof marries in Vegas
Peaches Geldof said she was "very happy" last night following her surprise wedding to an American musician.
The 19-year-old returned to London as Mrs Max Drummey after the Las Vegas wedding to the lead singer of band Chester French.
As news of the couple's nuptials spread, Geldof spent most of the day holed up in her home in Camden, London.
