Training offered to families of those with eating disorders

Course based on Maudsley model currently offered in Northern Ireland

Families who are struggling to cope with a loved one with an eating disorder are being invited to attend a course designed for their needs.

The course, based on the new Maudsley model, is being offered in the Republic for the first time after affected families asked a Northern Ireland charity to provide it here. The families contacted Cared (Caring about Recovery from Eating Disorders) Northern Ireland, which has run the course north of the Border for carers of people with eating disorders.

The new Maudsley model is designed as an adjunct to treatment of adolescents with bulimia and anorexia nervosa under the Maudsley model, a form of family-based approach.

The aim is to help parents and carers to feel more confident and empowered in their caring role, reduce their anxiety and improve communication lines in the family.
