How much sleep do you need?
Five or six hours. I'm up at 6.15 am. most mornings, sometimes 7.15 a.m.
How much exercise do you take?
I ride out every day and that keeps me fairly fit. If I go down to Aidan O'Brien's (trainer) I could be there riding from 7.30 a.m. until l p.m. If I'm with my father (Donald Swan, a trainer) I'm riding from 7.30 a.m.-10.30 a.m. And we race three times a week so we get plenty of exercise there. I have a treadmill as well, although some weeks I would use it and some weeks I might not.
Are you an early morning person?
When the weather is good. In the winter, it's difficult because it's cold and dark.
Are you careful about what you eat?
I am especially if I have a light ride coming up where I have to be nine stone seven pounds (he's five feet seven inches tall). Then I'd eat only fruit in the morning and I wouldn't mix carbohydrate and protein. It's called the Hay Diet. I couldn't describe it but my wife has a copy of it. In the middle of the day I'd have steak and vegetables, but no potatoes. Then in the evening just salad. But I'd only do that if I was doing a light ride. Normally, I can eat what I like, which is anything at all.
Do you drink or smoke too much?
I drink very little and only if I was at a party. I never smoked.
Are there any foods you hate?
Tomatoes, celery and dried fruit.
Have you ever been in hospital?
When I got my tonsils out and after that, only for broken bones as a result of falls. I've been hospitalised for broken bones about 10 times. I've broken my arm four times, my leg, a bone in my foot, my hand, my wrist and four ribs. I haven't had any problems as a result. Sometimes I feel a bit stiff in cold weather.
Does your work make you stressed?
A small bit. There's a lot of travelling and flying. Some weeks I could be going across to the UK a couple of times. Just keep going and every time you can get a bit of sleep, you do. For relaxation I play golf and that helps.
