Two guns were seized tonight by police investigating the murder of a policeman in Co Armagh.

They were uncovered close to the spot in Craigavon, in Co Armagh, where PC Stephen Carroll (48), was shot dead by the Continuity IRA last Monday.

Earlier in the day another two people were arrested in Craigavon for questioning about the murder.

The arrests of the men, aged 31 and 27, brought to seven the number of people being questioned about the murder.

The PSNI said tonight they had been given an extra five days to question three men - aged 41, 32 and 21 - who were arrested on Saturday over the murders of two soldiers at Massereene Barracks in Antrim.

Sappers Patrick Azimkar (21), from London, and Mark Quinsey (23), from Birmingham, were shot dead at the gates of the base when they went to collect pizzas which were being delivered just before they were to head off to Afghanistan for a tour of duty.

A fourth man is also being questioned about the murder, claimed by the Real IRA.

Meanwhile, a senior figure in a political party which reportedly has close links with the Continuity IRA warned tonight that there would be “consequences” for the British as long as they continued to “occupy” Northern Ireland.

Des Dalton, vice-president of Republican Sinn Féin, told More4 News that “resistance” against the British presence would continue.

Asked if it would be legitimate to bomb targets in mainland Britain, he said: “When the British government occupies another country, they do need to realise that consequences come with that.

“They’re one of the few EU members who continue to occupy the territory of another EU member. So that will create abnormal relations between those two countries. So there will quite obviously be consequences of that.”
