Gardaí in Co Clare have seized what they believe is a homemade rocket launcher along with other weapons and ammunition and a small quantity of explosives.
A statement from the Garda press office said gardaí today carried out a "planned operation" in the Cratloe area of the county as part of an ongoing investigation into "organised criminal activity".
"During the course of a search in a wooded area, gardaí discovered two shotguns, four revolvers, three rifles and a small quantity of explosives, ammunition and other items."
The gardaí were assisted by an army bomb disposal team.
"The scene has been sealed off and a full technical examination of the area has begun," the Garda statement said.
No arrests were made and the Garda said investigations are continuing.
It is understood the items were discovered at a number of locations over a wide area in Cratloe Woods, which is close to Limerick city.
