A Sinn Fein negotiator in the Northern talks, Mr Gerry Kelly, is facing charges of assaulting two RUC officers. Mr Kelly was arrested in north Belfast in June 1996, during a sit-down demonstration against an Orange parade. He was handcuffed and put into a police vehicle but he escaped still wearing handcuffs. Yesterday, Mr Kelly, of Rockmount Street, Belfast, appeared at the city's Magistrates Court and the charges were adjourned.
