Irish people's knowledge of marine geography and science is extremely limited, in spite of the major economic, climatic and leisure role of the seas around us, the Minister of State for the Marine, Mr Eamon Gilmore, said.
He was speaking at the launch of the first school manual on marine geography, by Ms Susan Hona, a geography teacher at the Dominican convent, Sion Hill, and Mr Gabriel King, a consultant in marine teaching resources.
