Galway laboratory damaged in fire

A marine laboratory in Carna in Co Galway has been extensively damaged in an overnight fire.

A marine laboratory in Carna in Co Galway has been extensively damaged in an overnight fire.

The fire service said that three sections of the Martin Ryan Institute of Marine Studies, which is attached to NUIG, were damaged in the fire.

It is understood fish tanks were held in the damaged building. Gardaí are investigating the cause of the fire.
