San Jose - Thousands of soldiers across Central America struggled yesterday to help people flee their wrecked houses, as flooding continued to devastate the region.

The total floods death toll was 66: 20 in Honduras, 12 in Guatemala, 13 in Nicaragua, 10 in El Salvador, 10 in Costa Rica and one in Panama. Some 42,000 people have been forced to evacuate so far, and millions of dollars worth of crops have been ruined.
