US: A company claiming to have created the world's first cloned babies has published a picture of one of the "clones" for the first time.
Clonaid said the photograph on its website of an infant in an incubator showed the third of five babies supposedly cloned since December. The company has so far refused to submit any of the so-called clones for DNA testing, leading most scientists to dismiss its claims.
But Clonaid president Ms Brigitte Boisselier said proof would be provided in the next few days that the baby - allegedly born in Japan - was cloned.
Clonaid is linked to a sect that claims humans were created by aliens. It says the five babies it claims to have cloned are all healthy.
Eve, the first, was allegedly born to US parents on December 26th.
A second cloned baby girl was reportedly born to a Dutch lesbian on January 3rd.
A third, a boy, was allegedly born in Japan later in January.
A fourth was born to Saudi Arabian parents on January 27th, Clonaid said, and a fifth on February 4th.
"The five happy couples of the first generation are now building an association in defence of their rights once they decide to go public," the company's website said.
