Arsenal Football Club's manager Arsene Wenger has pleaded with one of his footballers to get in touch so he can help him through the personal crisis that has put his career on hold.
Sol Campbell has not been seen since Wednesday night when he left the club's ground, Highbury, during a 3-2 defeat by West Ham and has become the centre of intense speculation ever since.
The 31-year-old had been at fault for the Hammers' first two goals and was substituted at the break, a decision Wenger insists was purely his.
Team-mate Robert Pires has already made it public that Campbell has a "big worry" in his private life but Wenger insisted that not only did he not know the exact nature of the defender's torment he did not know when he would be returning to the club either.
It has been suggested that Campbell , who is contracted to 2009, might even quit the game but Wenger offered to help a player who is regarded as a complex character, if that was what he wanted.
He said: "The only thing you can do is accept that every human being reacts differently to problems and the only thing we can do as a club is to support people when they need our help.
"Every human being has the right to privacy and you try to respect that. When players come out with their private life you have to support them but some don't like it and you have to respect that.
"Am I worried? No, not really. He is in a difficult period at the moment. And you can only help people if they are in touch.
"I haven't seen him since Wednesday night and I have no news from him at the moment. It is not a big concern for me because I feel he just needs a break.
"Will a few days to clear his head be sufficient? I think so. I do not know what the problem is. Frankly, really and sincerely I don't know.
"But I feel he is a very honest person. I like him very much as a person because he is honest and straight and not malicious. He is just a guy I rate highly as a human being."
Campbell was left out of the squad to take on Birmingham tomorrow at a time when Arsenal are suffering from an acute shortage of defenders.
