Gardai in Cork are looking for a number of men who entered a home on the north side of the city early yesterday and shot a father of seven. Mr William Hogan (39), survived the shotgun blast and was later discharged from hospital. He received a number of stitches to his head.

Mr Hogan and his wife Roseann, of Annalee Grove, Mayfield, had celebrated the engagement of their 17-year-old son, William jnr, in a nearby house. They then retired to their home. At 6 a. m. two men broke through the front door and shot Mr Hogan. Gardai are keeping an open mind on the incident, and house-to-house inquiries in the area are continuing.
