A father of three who was recently diagnosed as HIV-positive has been jailed for seven years for an aggravated burglary in which he attacked a householder with a syringe.

Mr Brendan Grehan, defending, said Geraghty was diagnosed HIV-positive in December after he developed acute symptoms on going into custody.

Geraghty (30), separated, of Tom Kelly Flats, Charlemont Street, Dublin, pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary at Wheatfield Avenue, Clondalkin, on August 22nd, 1997.
