AN explosive device was thrown at a RUC police patrol in Lurgan Co Armagh, last night.

The incident happened at 10.15 pm. as the patrol was travelling in a Land Rover along the Levine Road in the nationalist Kilwilkie estate.

A RUC spokesman said there were no serious injuries.

Earlier yesterday three men were arrested following a bomb alert in Lurgan at around 1 a.m. after they were seen engaging in suspicious activity" near the railway station. They were still being questioned last night.

About 100 families in nearby streets were evacuated. The Dublin Belfast railway line was closed all day between Lurgan and Portadown because of the follow up search. About 40 families were evacuated from their homes in, Dungannon, Co Tyrone, yesterday after a rocket attack on an RUC patrol at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

A bomb disposal officer dealt with the mortar which was found on the Newell Road by an elderly couple.
