The EU ambassador to South Africa, Mr Erwan Fouere, has been awarded South Africa's highest honour for a foreign citizen, the Order of Good Hope. Mr Fouere, the first EU ambassador to South Africa, is from Ireland.
The award was in recognition of his contribution to forging close relations between the new democratic South Africa and the EU.
