Warning for motorists after overnight frost

Motorists are being advised to use caution this morning as low overnight temperatures led to ice and frost in some areas.

AA Roadwatch has adivsed drivers to allow plenty of extra time to get to their destination and to use gentle manouvers to ensure safe driving.

Road temperatures are reported to be below zero on the N2 Dublin Rd in Monaghan and the N3 Dublin/ Cavan Rd at Kells.

Reports of fog have also led to motorists in Portlaoise, Carlow Town, Drogheda and Navan being advised to use fog lights when necessary.

It will remain cold and frosty in areas early this morning, with mostly dry weather across the midlands, south and east.

Increased cloud and scattered outbreaks of rain are expected to move down from the northwest with more persistent rain will follow from the west later in the afternoon and evening, affecting all areas.

Temperatures are expected to improve later with highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees predicted by Met Éireann, in freshening southwesterly winds; coolest across Ulster and north Leinster.
