Mist and fog weather warning as drivers urged to take caution

A mist and fog weather warning remained in place on Monday morning with road users in affected areas urged to take extra care in the early hours of the day.

Met Éireann warned that mist and fog could become dense in some areas, especially in the Midlands, and would lead to poor visibility.

AA Roadwatch advised drivers to slow down and use their fog lights in affected areas through Monday morning.

The status yellow fog warning was issued on Sunday afternoon and will remain in place until 11am on Monday.

One the mist and fog has cleared, Monday will be a largely dry day with hazy sunshine, said Met Éireann. However, it will turn cloudier in the north and west during the afternoon with highest temperatures reaching 16 degrees.

Temperatures will drop on Monday evening, falling to 10 degrees in some areas but as low as four or five degrees in parts of the southeast. It will be cloudy overnight with patchy light rain and drizzle affecting Ulster and north Connacht but drier further south with the best clear spells in south Leinster and south Munster.

Tuesday is due to be mainly dry with a mix of cloud and some sunny spells, however there will be light rain in parts of Ulster. Temperatures will range between 12 and 16 degrees.
