The Euro 2004 qualifier on Saturday night was surrounded by trouble with two English fans being shot on the eve of the game after a barroom brawl in the Slovak capital.

One of the fans was hit on the thigh and taken to hospital, but was later released. The other was hit in the neck and underwent an operation.

The game itself was marred by crowd trouble which followed the Slovakian opening goal in the 24th minute.

England fans started hurling missiles at Slovakian supporters - who were not segregated - five minutes after the goal.

Riot police then stepped in to try and calm down the situation by chasing the England supporters to the far end of the stand.
