Dublin’s Science Gallery exporting model to India

The parent company of Dublin's Science Gallery has signed an agreement with the Indian state of Karnataka to establish a learning visitors' centre in Bangalore.

Science Gallery International, a non-profit company based at Trinity College Dublin where the original gallery is based, is seeking to build a network of galleries internationally in partnership with universities and research institutions.

Adopting the Indian name for Bangalore, Science Gallery Bengaluru will be the third member of the network, which is backed by a gift from Google.org of $1.3 million (€1.04m), the organisation said.

The memorandum of agreement was signed during a trade and education mission to India, organised by Enterprise Ireland and led by Minister of State for Skills, Research and Innovation Damien English.

Speaking at the signing in Bangalore, Mr English said the gallery promised “to create a progressive, innovative and creative partnership between Ireland and India”.

Science Gallery London is due to open in 2016 at a prestigious site adjacent to Europe’s tallest building, the Shard. Other galleries are planned for the campuses of University of Melbourne and City College New York.
