Researchers at the University of St Andrews in Fife looked at the impact on skin tone of the orangey-red carotenoid pigments found in fruit and vegetables.

The results showed that two extra portions of fruit and vegetables every day created a change in skin colour within six weeks. The research supports health guidelines to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables every day.

Scientists tracked 35 students over a six-week period; those who improved their diet showed an increase in the desired golden skin tone, while the colour reduced in those whose diet had slipped. – (PA)
