Doubts were cast over David Bellion's move to Old Trafford today after the Sunderland striker's agent denied anything has been signed, despite reports to the contrary yesterday.
Reports from Wearside suggested the deal was made yesterday before the French Under-21's contract expires on June 30th.
Mike Morris, the player's agent, said no official talks had yet taken place.
"David is out of contract on June 30th and until that time he will not be speaking to anyone," said Morris, who at the same time acknowledged United's interest.
"I don't think it is any secret United like him but nothing has been signed."
Sir Alex Ferguson tried to sign the 20-year-old last season but the deal fell through that time when the Stg£1.5million offer was rejected.
It is understood Sunderland were looking for closer to £3million for the striker.
If United do eventually sign Bellion, the Black Cats would be entitled to compensation under the Bosman ruling because the player is still under 23.
But length of service is paramount in the tribunal and his two-year stay at Sunderland may not be long enough to demand a significant fee.
