Derry City and Drogheda United played out a scoreless draw at the Brandywell this evening.
Greg Dykes had little to be celebrating in his first game in charge of the Candystripes. Although in a dour first half, his team were the only ones to seriously threaten the goal.
Michael Holt forced a decent save Drogheda goalkeeper Gary Rodgers with a stinging volley on four minutes. But it took a futher 36 minutes before Ciaran Martyn managed a shot that was just off target.
The second half was little better with Drogheda finally managing a shot on target in the 66th minute which Alan Gough dealt with comfotably.
Derry created a couple of chances but Gary Rodgers was always eqaul to anything that came his way.
The generally turgid affair was brought to an appropriate end when a artless lunge by Drogheda's experienced centre-half Pat Scully saw hiom sent off in injury time.
The result does little for either team's league position with Drogheda languishing one place off the bottom of the Eircom National League while Derry are just two points and one place ahead of the Boynesiders.
