Gardai in Drogheda yesterday commended customers and staff who restrained a man who tried to rob a local pub on Tuesday night. The man, who is in his early 20s was carrying a lump hammer when he entered the pub just after 11.30 p.m. He threatened a customer and barman before jumping the counter in The Thatch Pub and taking money from the till a Garda spokesperson said.
He was restrained by the staff and customers and the gardai were called. The man was arrested and taken to the local Garda station.
