Gardai have appealed for public assistance in an investigation into an aggravated burglary where a woman was tied up at gunpoint in her home in Co Cork and a substantial sum of money was stolen by three masked raiders.
The incident happened at around 9.30pm on last night when three men called to house at Dromboy South four miles north of Carrignavar village north of Cork city and threatened a 58-year-old woman at gunpoint.
The gang, one of whom was armed with a rifle, made off with with what is described as "a substantial sum of cash" believed to be over €10,000. The gang made their getaway in the woman's Lexus car.
The alarm was raised when the woman's husband, who is in his mid-60s, returned home from his business in Cork city a short time later. He released his wife who was uninjured but badly shaken by the ordeal.
Gardai took a brief statement from the woman last night and are due to take a more detailed statement from her today in relation to the incident and descriptions of the three raiders.
Garda technical experts have begun a forensic examination of the couple's house .
