Serious crash on M50 near Shankill causes traffic disruption

Man suffers ‘serious injuries’ after crash with car

There were major traffic disruptions in south Dublin and Wicklow today after parts of the M50 and M11 were closed following a crash.

A motorcyclist, in his mid-20s, collided with a car at junction 17, where the M11 merges onto the M50 motorway near Shankill.

Gardaí said the man suffered “serious injuries” and was taken to St Vincent’s hospital for treatment.

Traffic came to a standstill for hours as the forensic collision investigation team were sent to examine the scene after the crash.

Gardaí put diversions in place, and closed the M11 road northbound and the motorway between junctions 16 and 17.

Gardaí had asked people who were held up in traffic to stay in their cars as they diverted motorists away from the scene.

They said the M50 and M11 road sections had now reopened and the junctions were cleared.

However, AA Roadwatch said while traffic was moving well on the M11, there were still heavy delays.

It said traffic remained very slow on all approaches through Bray and to avoid the area if possible.

It said traffic was also moving slowly from Enniskerry towards Kilternan.

Dublin Bus said the routes affected, 45a, 84, 145, 184 and 185, had returned to normal but there will still delays.

Iarnród Éireann said earlier today they were accepting Dublin Bus tickets on rail services to and from Bray following the road collision.
