Murder of man in Co Antrim investigated by police

Death of man in 60s took place in Ransalstown; Woman in 50s assaulted during incident

Police in Northern Ireland are treating as murder, the death of a man in his 60s in Randalstown, Co Antrim on Thursday morning.

It followed an incident on the Caddy Road in the early morning which involved a number of vehicles.

PSNI detective chief inspector Gareth Talbot said a woman in her 50s was assaulted and taken to hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries.

He said: “At this time investigations are at an early stage but I am treating this as murder.

The PSNI is appealing to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious vehicles or activity in the Caddy Road area at around midnight.

Local Sinn Fein MLA Mitchel McLaughlin said the local community was shocked by the killing.

“ Randalstown is a quiet, close knit community. This news that the town awoke to is complete unexpected and we are all mindful that a family is now grieving,” he said.
