Woman charged over Cork crash in which mother and daughter died

A woman has been charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of a mother and daughter who drowned when their car ended up in a dyke after a crash near their home in Cork just days before Christmas.

Susan Gleeson (21), of Leitrim, Kilworth, Co Cork appeared before Fermoy District Court on Friday charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of Geraldine and Louise Clancy.

Geraldine (58) and Louise (22), also from Kilworth, died after the incident on the Fermoy to Ballyduff Road shortly before 11.30am on December 22nd last.

Judge Brian Sheridan granted Ms Gleeson free legal aid.

John Brooks, solicitor for the accsued, applied for an engineers report as part of the preparations for the trial.

Judge Sheridan remanded Ms Gleeson on bail on her own bond of €500. She was returned for trial at Cork Circuit Criminal Court on October 25th.

Louise Clancy had returned home for Christmas from the University of Sussex at Falmer near Brighton where she was on an Erasmus Exchange Programme from UCC.

An inquest in to the deaths of the women heard that they died from acute cardio respiratory failure due to drowning.
