Dublin murder accused faces wait for book of evidence

A 63-year-old man accused of the murder of a man outside a chip shop in Dublin in August has been further remanded in custody while prosecutors prepare the book of evidence.

Donal Colgan, from Killarney Street, in central Dublin, had been charged earlier with the murder of a father-of-three David 'Gummy' Sheridan (45), at North Strand Road on the night of August 18th, 2014.

Mr Colgan appeared at Cloverhill District Court where Judge Victor Blake further remanded him in custody with consent to bail to appear again on January 27th next for a book of evidence to be served.

Mr Sheridan had been in a fast food outlet near the Five Lamps shortly before he sustained multiple wounds.

First aid was administered at the scene before he was taken to the Mater Hospital where he underwent surgery. However, he was pronounced dead at the hospital at about 11.20am the following day.

At Mr Colgan's first court hearing in August, Det Sgt Mark Watters had said the defendant had "no reply" when the charge was put to him.

During the same hearing, legal aid had also been granted to Mr Colgan who earned €550 gross a week and paid €91 in rent a week .
