Customs officers and gardai have seized almost £40,000 in cigarettes and tobacco in a campaign against illegal street sales

Customs officers and gardai have seized almost £40,000 in cigarettes and tobacco in a campaign against illegal street sales. According to the Revenue Commissioners, 111 seizures, worth £38,623.27, were made in the past fortnight.

Some 266,120 cigarettes were seized in "Operation Stampede" which included raids on suspect premises and action against street traders.

Most of the raids were in the Dublin area, specifically in Cabra, Finglas and Skerries.
